Both the Lesser Flamingo seen here, Phoeniconaias minor, and the Greater Flamingo, Phoenicopterus roseus, gather at Lake Bogoria in large numbers, the former sometimes numbering in the millions. They produce a constant murmur as they feed. Early in the morning many birds congregate at the north end of the lake, where steam caused by the venting of near-boiling hot water rises from the surface.
