A lightly built cat designed for speed, the Cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus, can accelerate to 70 mph with startling rapidity. Being so light, the Cheetah will give up prey to lions and hyaenas because it lacks the power to defend a kill against these more powerfully built competitors. Unlike the lion and hyaena, the Cheetah hunts by day, and with the growth of tourism in Kenyan parks, Cheetah stalks are not infrequently spoiled by too aggresive tour vehicles.
