A successful grazer, the Plains Zebra, Equus burchelli, is common in Masai Mara; they join the Wildebeests in vast migrations from the Serengeti. They are among the most water-dependent of the plains animals. Watering zebras keep an anxious eye on their surroundings, alert to any sign of ambushing lions.
