Common in marshy fringes of freshwater lakes and ponds in southern and western Kenya, the African Jacana, Actophilornis africanus, walks easily on water lilies and other floating vegetation thanks to its extremely long claws and toes. The bright blue bill and frontal shield look almost as if painted on in grease paint. This one is foraging for insects in the marsh in Amboseli.
